TLDR: L’accolade is a Good Time™, any time. This modern French restaurant is excellent for most occasions, is easy to get into, and has a rotating menu to keep you coming back for more. Keep this West Village gem in your back pocket.

When I tell you that you should be going to a French restaurant, I know what you might be thinking. White table cloths, red leather booth seating, and a menu that scans from “salade niçoise” and “soupe à l’oignon” to “boeuf bourguignon”. Very French, tasty, but predictable. I hear you.
Fortunately, L’accolade is a different kind of French restaurant – one I think you’ll find much more exciting. Right in the fervor in the West Village, L’accolade plays it cool. It’s casual enough for a weeknight catchup with a friend, cute enough for a date. You could even nonchalantly take your parents or a visiting friend to low-key impress them with your awesome New York lifestyle (especially if you book the secret back patio on a warm night). The point is, L’accolade is a swiss army knife of a restaurant, and you should have it in your toolbelt.
Unlike that stereotypical French restaurant you were expecting, I can guarantee you that you will be able to pronounce 90%+ of the dishes without having taken French in high school. The menu isn’t huge, but you can find something for everyone between their veggie-focused starters, seafood and pasta appetizers, and heavier meaty mains. You can even toggle your experience from chill to fancy just by ordering the pre-fixe, which gives you one dish of each category, your choice. I won’t go into gruesome detail about what I’ve eaten here since the menu changes seasonally, but expect high quality ingredients, picture perfect execution, and some novel flavor combos that make you go “mmm, wow you gotta try this!”.
L’accolade is a no-brainer, especially when you consider it’s rather easy to reserve a day or two in advance or walk in on a weeknight. Grab someone you like, relax, sit back, enjoy a glass of natural wine and forget everything you know about French food. This is what a modern French restaurant looks like.
