Worth A Try
TLDR: When you want a burger, Hall is the answer. This tiny, ornate cocktail bar serves up a mean beef patty and works as a cute date spot to boot. Head over a little early to get a table and fix that iron deficiency.
Once every few months, I crave a burger. It could be a smash-patty a la Shakeshack or a thick juicy French style hamburger, so long as it is flavorful and salty. Hall, with its thick, gourmet burger, is just the place to sate that hunger.
Tucked away on a quiet street in Flatiron, Hall is a tiny cocktail bar that serves unbelievably juicy burgers. Seating only 8 people, the vibe is intimate and vaguely gothic-churchy in a romantic way. I’m pretty sure the wood paneling is in fact from an old European church. Hidden in the back is a Michelin starred sushi restaurant, but you can ignore that: you’re on a meat mission.
The bartender at Hall is serious about his cocktails and doubles as both waiter and entertainment. Most of your fellow diners will be on dates, but that won’t stop them from striking up a conversation with the bartender or each other. You’ll feel equally welcome to join the fun or watch the show.
Though there are some non-burger items on the menu, you can safely ignore them. They pale in comparison to the burger, which is the only reason to work to get into Hall. Understandably, this small establishment can be a bit of a wait (there are no reservations) but it’s not interminable. Hit Barcade five blocks north for a few rounds of pinball while you wait and you’ll be eating that sweet, juicy burger and buttery bun before you know it.
