Solid Choice
TLDR: Anixi is a fantastic vegan restaurant that might make you question your need for real meat. Take a vegan and some other friends to make it a party – whether you’re veg or not.
Anixi might just be the best vegan restaurant in the city. It’s definitely the best one I’ve been to that serves vegan cheese and meat and not just vegetables (a la Dirt Candy). Inspired by Mediterranean and Greek food, Anixi manages to pull off creamy dips and grilled “meat” kebabs in a way you might not believe. The food is flavorful and satisfying, with pretty close to normal textures (the only exception: the whipped “feta” dip was less spreadable than real feta).
My favorites here were the eggplant dip (admittedly, vegan by nature, but also incredibly creamy anyway), the manti “lamb” pockets, and the “chicken” shish kabob. The steak kabob was also really good and honestly tasted pretty damn close to real steak (a very lean one) which kind of freaked me out.
It’s nice that Anixi is decorated in a cool lounge-y style to make the meal feel more special – I would definitely take any vegetarian/vegan friend here for a birthday meal. They also have ample group seating and solid drinks, so you can make it a party!
And if you’re not vegan and you’re thinking “why would I go to a vegan restaurant?”, just try it. You might be surprised.
